I've got a short(ish) update this week. Work is kicking my bee-hind and I have three items of catch-up to get to, plus a pile of GRNT entries to do :) On February 12, my partner in crime and the Rocky Mount crew handled things as I was laid up with a terrible flu. I'm still coughing a bit, but am MUCH better, and thank Megan & Co for taking care of things for me. There were 20 people who came out to play on that night, and we paid out 4 places and 3 teams: Larry Phifer took 1st with another near-perfect card. He earned 19 / 8 / 198; a grand slam spoiled by Glen McMahon Frank Abernathy took 2nd with a 15 / 7 / 106 Joseph Greiner took 3rd with a 14 / 7 / 25 Albert Robinson took 4th with a 14 / 6 / 108 In addition to the four place-winners, there were three others who earned GRPs, and made for great partnerships. 1st team: Kristy Haught (14) and Scott Olson (12) 2nd team: Mike Due (12) and John Morch (9) 3rd team: Megan Player (10) and Barry Judge (9) ----------- Saturday, February 17th was our GRNT. We only had 18 players come out, but we had 5 of them earn GRPs! John Morch scored 27 points Peter Lerch scored 25 points Tom Goeschel scored 25 points Larry Phifer and Jeff Seidenstein scored 24 points Anyone who missed our GRNT and still want a chance to win points, Sharon Ober is hosting one in Winston-Salem on March 23rd at the American Legion at 111 Miller Street. Contact Robert at [email protected] if you have questions. ----------- Then, on February 19, we were back in full force, with 23 peggers out to play. This time we had to dip into the non-GRP winners to round out the winner's list: Roger Doenges took 1st with a 16 / 7 / 90 Scott M. Olson took 2nd with a 15 / 7 / 75 Glenn McMahon took 3rd with a 14 / 7 / 73 Tom Goeschel took 4th with a 12 / 6 / 93 Jennifer Johnson took 5th with a 12 / 5 / 84 Visitor Bob Murray took 6th with a 11 / 5 / 15 1st Team: Larry Phifer (10) and Jeff Seidenstein (8) 2nd Team: Bernard Whitfield (10) and Bob Hewitt (7) 3rd Team: Kelsey Jobe (9) and Al Robinson (8) In Cut-Card Poker, Tom Goeschel [finally] got to take the pot with a full house, 9s full of Kings. ----------- Barry Judge officially joined this week; Frank Easton will have to join next week so I can post the results from the 19th. Until that happens, we won't have full official/unofficial numbers on the website. They will catch up as the membership monies get processed. Until then, I have a super-wicked-low-tech-done-with-Excel listing of our top-10: Once all of this data is updated online, Brian Wilson will be 5 GRPs away from his bronze, and Tom Goeschel needs only 32 for his. Kristy Haught is 103 away from her silver. Exciting! ------ Some final information for you ...there are some Megafer Tournaments coming up! April 12-14 Raleigh Spring Fling Cluster (Durham) May 17-19 NC Open Cluster (Winston-Salem) The National Open will be July 25-29 in Durham. Flyers for all will be available as we get closer to the dates, but details can be found on cribbage.org at this link: ClickMe See ya'll Monday! ~Jennifer

So OK, the week got away from me last week. This week isn't going to be any better since this is my "go to office" week, but I had a PILE of stuff that was neglected over the last many days, so I'm holed up in my home office tonight doing "cribbage stuff". Club first, then GRNT stuff, the HOF stuff, then bank statement reconciling. So glamorous! OK. Last week. To end our January, we had someone come in and join! He played with us many months ago as a guest, but wants to come more regularly. Welcome to Chris Peck! We had the following results for 22 players: Megan Player took 1st with a 17 / 7 / 96 John Morch took 2nd with a 17 / 7 / 77 Frank Abernathy took 3rd with a 14 / 6 / 82 Joe Greiner took 4th with a 14 / 6 / 10 Ernie Hodgson took 5th with a 13 / 6 / 48 1st Team: Roger Doenges (12) and Bernard Whitfield (10) 2nd Team: Tom Goeschel (12) and Pete Amacher (8) 3rd Team: Steve Podolski (11) and Liz Henderson (9) To start out our February, we had 18 souls come out to play. We paid out four places and three teams: Glenn McMahon took 1st with a 14 / 7 / 59 John Morch II took 2nd with a 14 / 7 / 56 Brian Wilson took 3rd with a 13 / 5 / 100 Tom Goeschel took 4th with a 12 / 6 / -21 1st Team: Chris Peck (10) and Joe Greiner (10) 2nd Team: Jennifer Johnson (12) and Roger Doenges (8) 3rd Team: Bernard Whitfield (10) and Pete Amacher (8) Here are the current results, with the past two weeks entered into the system. Full results can be found here Note: these are "unofficial" until the regional statistician (Cathy Perkins) has a chance to make them official. Cut Card Poker Results: January 29: Jerry Gooden with quad 5s February 5: Megan Player with a Queen Yahtzee I think I'm going to just show the results going forward, since Tom gives the prize out the night of the tournament. For our GRNT, we are scheduled for Saturday, February 17. Registration is at 8:30 AM and I'd like to start by 9:15.
ALSO, there are some Megafer Tournaments coming up! April 12-14 Raleigh Spring Fling Cluster (Durham) May 17-19 NC Open Cluster (Winston-Salem) The National Open will be July 25-29 in Durham. Flyers for all will be available as we get closer to the dates, but details can be found on cribbage.org at this link. There are some folks traveling to Virginia Beach this weekend -- GOOD LUCK! May your pegs run swiftly and always in the right direction :) See ya'll Monday! ~Jennifer Well, week #19 is in the books. We had another new player join us this week; Barry Judge. Frank Easton joined us again, though we're not very nice to him, cards-wise :) Both gentlemen had a good time, and look forward to coming back! This week, we had 19 players, meaning we paid out 5 places and two teams. We also had a GRAND SLAM! (congrats Larry!) Larry Phifer took 1st with a GRAND SLAM 19 / 9 / 164 Jerry Gooden took 2nd with a 14 / 7 / 25 Frank Abernathy took 3rd with a 13 / 6 / 79 Ernie Hodgson took 4th with a 12 / 6 / 21 Megan Player, also known as our Girl Scout cookie dealer, took 5th with a 12 / 6 / 17 First team: Liz Henderson (12) and Jennifer Johnson (8) Second team: Brian Wilson (10) and Al Robinson (10) Here are the standings after this weeks' entries have been added to the website: Jerry Gooden had two pairs, Aces and 8s Frank Abernathy had two pairs, Aces and deuces Megan Player had a flush in spades Bill Hubbard had a flush in hearts John Morch had a flush in clubx Tom Goeschel had two pairs, 8s and 6s Liz Henderson had a full house, Kings full of 10s Jennifer Johnson had quad 5s Glenn McMahon had two pairs, 10s and 5s Bernard Whitfield had a flush in spades Kelsey Jobe had trip 4s Joe Greiner had a pair of 5s Our GRNT has been scheduled for Saturday, February 17th.
CELEBRATION OF LIFE FOR JIM TOWNSEND A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at 2:00pm at Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC, 27609. The family invites friends to join in a reception at the funeral home immediately following the service. Jim cared so much for others, especially children in need. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are welcomed in Jim's honor to St. Jude's, or your favorite children's charity. I think that's everything for me this week, folks. See ya'll Monday!
~ Jennifer So, when last we blogged... ... it was 2023 and the last few holidays of the year hadn't happened yet. Since then, we've been back a couple of weeks (one with Megan at the helm with an assist from Rocky Mount), had new players PLAY and a couple WATCH, had a good showing at the Asheville tournament -- congrats to Friday winners Frank (Main) and Megan (Consy), AND one of us had a birthday (I hope it was happy, Joe!!!) So, January 8th, we had the following results for 20 players: Bernard Whitfield took 1st with a 15 / 6 / 107 Fran Ward took 2nd with a 13 / 6 / 48 Larry Phifer took 3rd with a 12 / 6 / 39 Robert Smothers took 4th with a 12 / 6 / 30 1st Team: Jerry (12) and Ray (10) 2nd Team: Bill (12) and Al (8) 3rd Team: Frank (11) and Kelsey (8) We welcomed Janis and Rob Thompson as guests, and (hopefully) wished Joe Greiner a very happy birthday. I'm not listing the cut-card poker results for this week, but I presume it was paid out, so good on ya if it was you! On January 15th, as we came together again, we had 19 players and the following results: Joseph Greiner took 1st with a 19 / 8 / 215 Jennifer Johnson took 2nd with a 13 / 6 / 76 Megan A. Player took 3rd with a 11 / 5 / 9 John B. Morch II took 4th with a 11 / 5 / 3 Peter Amacher took 5th with a 10 / 5 / 56 1st Team: Kelsey (10) and Fran (9) 2nd Team: Roger (10) and Bernard (9) You read right -- we had to dip into the 10s to round out the place winners. A whole lotta mediocre cards in the room to be sure. We also welcomed new player, Frank Easton, and hope he comes back to play with us again! Anyway, after adding those two sets of data to the website tonight, this is what the top-10 standings look like: Megan Player had a full house, Queens full of 2s Steve Podolsky had two pairs, 8s and 6s John Morch had a pair of 7s Bernard Whitfield had a full house, 9s full of 10s Andy Wagner had a full house, Kings full of 4s Glenn McMahon had a pair of 9s Joe Greiner had a pair of Aces Tom Goeschel had a full house, 10s full of Kings Frank Abernathy had a terrible set of poker cards -- Queen high Kelsey Jobe had two pairs, 9s and 5s Jerry Gooden had a diamond flush Fran Ward had a full house, 3s full of 5s Jennifer Johnson had a full house, Jacks full of 10s For our GRNT, I think we last left it at possibly Saturday, February 17. Backup date April 20. Let me know if that won't work for you. I'll talk to the restaurant next week to hold those dates for us.
OK, I'm done for the night. Have a fabulous week, my friends! See ya'll Monday. ~ Jennifer ...Also known as Week 16 Results We finished the year with 25 players, including my son as a visitor :) He was the third Jeff, and had a great time but terrible cards. Thanks for making him feel welcome, everyone! We welcomed back Tom Goeschel, who brought his delicious chocolate-covered peanut butter Ritz sandwiches (PBRs) and Megan Player, who brought a box full of delicious homemade cookies. Kristy Haught also brought a yummy treat, but I didn't get to have any of those. We also had a dead-die for places 3-4. Both John Morch and Bill Hubbard had the same points, games, spread, and plus points. As they did not play each other, the final tie-breaker is a "one game playoff". As it was after 10pm that night, neither gentleman wanted to do that. They were given the choice of cutting a deck or pooling the prize and splitting it in half; they opted for the latter. I think that's only the second time I can remember having to go to a tie-breaker. I'm sure it happened more in our club, but not in my memory. Larry Phifer took 1st with a 15 / 7 / 114, and with that, the lead in the club. Frank Abernathy took 2nd with a 13 / 6 / 50 Bill Hubbard and John Morch both shared 3rd with a 13 / 6 / 45 Jerry Gooden took 5th with a 13 / 5 / 111 Tom Goeschel took 6th with a 12 / 6 / 35 First Team: Kelsey Jobe (12) Jeff Raynes (11) Second Team: Liz Henderson (10) and Glenn McMahon (8) Third Team: Pete Amacher (10) and Kristy Haught (8) Here is the top 10 with these results added. For full results, you can check our club standings on cribbage.org. Frank Abernathy had a full house, 5s full of Queens John Morch had a full house, 9s full of 5s Bill Hubbard had a full house, Aces full of Kings Jerry Gooden had a full house, Aces full of 7s Tom Goeschel had two pairs, Queens and 10s Steve Podolski had a full house, 7s full of Jacks Megan Player had a spade flush, Queen high Ernie Hodgson had a club flush, Jack high Joe Greiner had a straight to the 9 Fran Ward had a full house, Kings full of Queens Kristy Haught had two pairs, 10s and 3s Mike Due had a full house, 7s full of 9s Bernard Whitfield had two pairs, Kings and 3s Liz Henderson had a full house, 7s full of Jacks Glenn McMahon had a pair of 8s Jennifer Johnson had a club flush, King high Well, that's it for 2023.
We will reconvene on January 8th with Rocky Mount and Megan running the show. I'll be back January 15th. I hope everyone had a magical Winter Solstice, and if you celebrate Hanukkah, Christmas, Boxing Day, Kwanzaa, Zarathosht Diso, or something else, I hope the holiday is (or was) full of family, friends, and love. Happy New Year to everyone; may next year bring you health, happiness, and swift pegs! ~ Jennifer As we inch closer to the Holiday Hiatus, we had 22 players this week, paying out 5 places and 3 teams: Roger Doenges took 1st with a 15 / 7 / 96 Frank Abernathy took 2nd with a 14 / 6 / 108 Jeff Seidenstein took 3rd with a 13 / 6 / 70 Larry Phifer took 4th with a 13 / 6 / 22 Bernard Whitfield took 5th with a 12 / 6 / 28 Teams: 1st: Jerry Gooden (11) and Andy Wagner (10) 2nd: Kristy Haught (10) and Liz Henderson (10) 3rd: Jeff Raynes (12) and Bob Hewitt (8) Here are the top 10 standings, with the current week's scores entered: So, I've already put away all the cards, so I don't have the full listing of hands this week, but Ernie Hodgson had the best full house of the night, Kings over 6s. This coming Monday, we welcome back Tom (yay) and Megan (also yay)!
We may also welcome my son, who will be home for the Christmas break, and is jonesing for Tom's PBRs :) For our GRNT, I totally forgot about March Madness -- I suppose a sports bar during college hoop playoffs is NOT the place for a day of cribbage. We can play anytime after Christmas, actually, but I'd like to target February or later. Joe let me know about Canes' home games in March, and I know Virginia Beach is in February on Superbowl weekend, I have a tournament in April, the cribbage cruise is in April, and Reno is in March, so we'll avoid those weekends. Right now I'm thinking about Saturday, February 17. I know there's lots of college ball that weekend, but there is lots of college ball EVERY weekend for the foreseeable future. But there's no hockey. Of course, this pre-supposes that High Park will let us have a Saturday during basketball season, but they did last year. I think last year we did January, so February shouldn't be too much different. ANYWAY, let me know what weeks after, say, mid-January don't work. Another reminder, WE DO NOT PLAY ON CHRISTMAS DAY OR NEW YEAR'S DAY Also, January 8 I will be in Atlanta, so Rocky Mount will be bringing the supplies, and Megan will be helping out (shoulder allowing). See ya'll Monday! ~ Jennifer Well, not really a fortnight -- I mean, if we played for 2 weeks straight, I'm sure someone would end up with, um, for example, an abundance of paper cuts or pegs stuck in their face. But we've completed 14 weeks of the season. And the winter holiday season is upon us! We had 20 players on Monday, meaning we paid out four places and three teams: Larry Phifer took 1st with a 16 / 8 / 147, bringing him to within 15 of top-of-the-club Jeff Raynes took 2nd with a 13 / 6 / 79, bringing him up to 4th place in club. Jennifer Johnson took 3rd with a 12 / 6 / 8, inching her up to spot 8 in the top-10 and Frank Abernathy took 4th with a 12 / 5 / 70 First Team: Fran Ward (12) and Brian Wilson (9) Second Team: John Morch (10) and Kristy Haught (10) Third Team: Joe Greiner (11) and Ernie Hodgson (9) Here are the top-10 after this week's numbers were added.... Frank Abernathy had quad 4's winning the pot. Jennifer Johnson had a spade flush. Ernie Hodgson had a straight to the King. Joe Greiner had a full house, 5s full of Jacks. Kristy Haught had trip fours. John Morch had a diamond flush to the Ace. Fran Ward ha a full house, Jacks full of Kings. Bernard Whitfield had a full house, Jacks full of Queens. Jerry Gooden had two pairs, Aces and 9s Andy Wagner had a straight to the 8 Glenn McMahon had a full house, 9s full of 3s We need to think about scheduling our GRNT. I'm thinking one of the Saturdays in March. Let me know your no-go dates, and I"ll do my best to accommodate. We can play up until April 30.
Also, Tom is having another minor procedure on Friday, so please keep him in your prayers. He hopes to be back among us on the 18th. Megan is also doing better, and hopes to be back with us soon! Have a great rest of your week; see ya'll Monday! ~ Jennifer We have our unlucky # 13 in the books. Well, unlucky for some of us. For others, it was a pretty dang good night. We had 21 peggers come out to play, and paid out 5 places and 3 teams. Andy Wagner took 1st with a 17 / 8 / 120 Brian Wilson took 2nd with a 16 / 7 / 124 Larry Phifer took 3rd with a 13 / 6 / 15 Jeff Seidenstein took 4th with a 13 / 5 / 70 Roger Doenges took 5th with a 12 / 6 / 51 First Team: Joe Greiner (12) and Kristy Haught (10) Second Team: Jeff Raynes (12) and Jerry Gooden (10) Third Team: Mike Due (12) and Glenn McMahon (6) Here are the standings, with this week's results posted: Andy Wagner had a club flush to the Ace (two, to be precise) Frank Abernathy had two pairs, Aces and 7s Jennifer Johnson had a full house, 6s full of Queens Bernard Whitfield had a full house, Jacks full of Kings Glenn McMahon had a YAHTZEE! in Queens Bill Hubbard had two pairs, 6s and 2s Allan Sampson had two pairs, Queens and 10s Mike Due had a diamond flush Liz Henderson had a pair of 5s Joe Greiner had a full house, Jacks full of 2s Kristy Haught had a full house, 3s full of Kings Jerry Gooden had two pairs, Queens and 7s Ernie Hodgson had a full house, Queens full of 3s John Morch had a straight to the 9 Brian's 16-card this week puts him at 18 points to Bronze. Tom Goeschel sits at 105 to bronze (hopefully he will be back in mid-December) and Kristy Haught at 129 to Silver. We all wish Tom Goeshel well on his outpatient surgery on Thursday and hope he has MUCH better luck than last time...
We also wish Megan Player continued good healing. We miss you both and send lots of love!!! Have a good week, everyone... See some of you in Virginia Beach this weekend! ~ Jennifer We are one dozen weeks into the season fast approaching the winter holidays. Speaking of, we are NOT playing on Christmas or New Year's day. We had 21 people come to play. As such, we paid out 5 places and 3 teams. Here are the results from week 12: Jerry Gooden took 1st with a 15 / 7 / 84 Peter Amacher took 2nd with a 14 / 7 / 46 Stephen Podolski took 3rd with a 14 / 6 / 63 Fran Ward took 4th with a 13 / 6 / 22 Kelsey Jobe took 5th with a 11 / 5 / 75 Team 1: Ernie Hodgson (11) and Glenn McMahon (9) Team 2: John Morch (10) and Jennifer Johnson (9) Team 3: Joe Greiner (10) and Bob Hewitt (9) Here are the current standings, after the results (and GRRT) have been entered... Mike Due had a straight to the Jack Liz Henderson had two pairs, Jacks, and 8s Jerry Gooden had two pairs, Kings and Jacks Fran Ward had a pair of 7s Ernie Hodgson had a club flush Glenn McMahon had quad 10s Joe Greiner had a full house, 6s full of Kings Frank Abernathy had a pair of 10s Linda Thompson-Brennan had quad 7s Bernard Whitfield had a full house, 9s full of Queens Kristy Haught had a diamond flush John Morch had a diamond flush Jennifer Johnson had a spade flush I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving; see ya'll next week!
~ Jennifer Hello everyone, and sorry for the delay. I had to wait until our newest member, Bill Hubbard, was in the system. He doesn't have his ACC number yet, but he's listed as a member now, so I was able to put in last week's and this week's results. Here were the winners for Week 10: 20 players, 4 places, 3 teams. Allan Simpson took 1st with a 15 / 7 / 79 Megan A. Player took 2nd with a 15 / 7 / 76 Glenn McMahon took 3rd with a 14 / 6 / 112 Jeff Seidenstein took 4th with a 13 / 6 / 28 Team 1: Larry Phifer (12) and Al Robinson(10) Team 2: Roger Doenges (12) and Frank Abernathy (8) Team 3: Fran Ward (10) and Bernard Whitfield (8) Here is the update for Week 11: We had 22 players come out to play. Us, along with two large dinner/party groups meant the bar was HOPPING this week. Still, we managed to get our games in, and have a good time. With 22 players, we paid out 5 places and 3 teams: Current club leader Jeff Seidenstein took 1st with a 17 / 8 / 128 Roger Doenges took 2nd with a 15 / 7 / 127 Close second in the club race was Bernard Whitfield , who took 3rd with a 14 / 7 / 40 Welcome back, Liz Henderson , who took 4th with a 13 / 6 / 60 And we were all glad to see Jeff Raynes, who took 5th with a 12 / 6 / 90 Team 1: Bob Hewitt (12) and Allan Simpson (6) Team 2: Andy Wagner (10) and Steve Podolski (8) Team 3: Jerry Gooden (11) and Glenn McMahon (7) And although there is no jewelry given out for it (though some will be worn next week), yours truly, Jennifer Johnson, had the dubious honor of winning NONE OF MY GAMES. Ya'll are mean. :) So, I'll break out my wedding pearls and wear them on Monday. I may even print myself a "Damn Slam" certificate :) Here are the club standings, 11 weeks in: For week 10, the winner was Fran Ward, with an Aces-full-of-Queens full house.
