I thought we were going to have to play folks twice -- it was 6pm and we just had enough to play! But, our fearless faithful came to pay, giving us an even 18 players on hand for Cribbage. Having 18 players, we paid out 4 places and 3 teams: Larry Phifer took 1st with an almost grand-slam: 17 / 8 / 121 Fran Ward took 2nd with a 16 / 7 / 56 Jerry Gooden took 3rd with a 13 / 6 / 98 Frank Abernathy took 4th with a 13 / 6 / 74 1st team: Steve Podolsky (12) and Glenn McMahon (6) 2nd team: Roger Doenges (11) and Pete Amacher (6) 3rd team: Bob Hewitt (8) and Al Robinson (8) Here are the standings through 8 weeks of play: Jerry Gooden had two pairs, Jacks and Queens Fran Ward had a pair of 4s John Morch had a heart flush. Glenn McMahon had two pairs, Kings and 7s Jennifer Johnson had two pairs, Kings and Jacks Andy Wagner had two pairs, 7s and 3s. A reminder that our Grassroots Regional Tournament is being held on November 18th at High Park Bar and Grille. Registration is at 9, play at 9:30. I'm asking folks to put in lunch orders at the time of registration so that we're not overwhelming the kitchen at noon time -- they'll already know what we want to eat.
That's about it for this week... see ya'll Monday! ~ Jennifer

Yes, this is a quick drive-by with the results from the last couple of weeks. With a week in Virginia Beach, then a week in the office, there hasn't been time to do anything! But, today, after a good, solid, 11 hours' sleep, I was able to get the last two weeks' worth of results entered. Week 6 (October 9): We had a dearth of good cards this week. Only three cards earned GRPs this week, all 15s. We had 2 11 cards who rounded out the prize money. Crazy week as folks gear up for Grand National 41 Jerry Gooden took first with a 15 / 7 / 100 Bernard Whitfield took second with 15 / 7 / 86 Jeff Seidenstein took third with 15 / 6 / 111 Jennifer Johnson took fourth with 11 / 5 / 45 John Morch took fifth with 11 / 5 / 13 First team: Andy (!0) and Joe (8) Second team: Bill (10) and Megan (8) Week 7 (October 16): We had two new guests play with us tonight; Gina and Tony Roumanis from Cary. They had a good time, and bad cards, but we hope they come back and play with us again! We had 23 total players (only 21 full-pay), so we paid out 5 places and 3 teams. Unlike last week, we had seven cards earn GRPs. Bernard Whitfield took first with 14 / 7 / 101 Joe Greiner took second with 14 / 7 / 44 Brian Wilson took third with 14 / 6 / 46. Brian is now within 34 points of his bronze! Bob Hewitt took fourth with 13 / 6 / 86 Fran Ward took fifth with 13 / 6 / 79 First Team: Jennifer (12) and Pete (10) Second Team: Tom (13) and Al (6) Third Team: Megan (10) and Steve (8) Here are current standings, now that these results have been entered. I'm gonna cut this short as it's lunchtime and I slept through breakfast. I hope to see ya'll Monday! I should be back to regular posting next week. Work weeks are hard :)
~ Jennifer Our whole club sends heartfelt condolences to Mike Due, who lost his father last Monday. We sure are sorry, Mike.... So, no double-skunks this week. Not for lack of lousy cards though; John Morch almost earned a second pin with a 58-hole loss. I may get some tiny star stickers so that when folks get "double-skunked again" they at least get a sticker. I mean, by toddler rules, that's an awesome prize, right? We had 21 players (including Dominic again, 2 weeks in a row!) so we paid out 5 places and three teams: Glenn McMahon took 1st with a 14 / 7 / 64 Jennifer Johnson took 2nd with a 14 / 6 / 63 Frank Abernathy took 3rd with a 13 / 6 / 76 Joseph Greiner took 4th with a 12 / 6 / 69 Jeff Seidenstein took 5th with a 12 / 6 / 49 First Team: Mike Due (11) and Dominic Matthieu (10) Second Team: Kelsey Jobe (10) and Fran Ward (10) Third Team: Andy Wagner (11) and Brian Wilson (9) Standings, through 5 weeks is below: An update on Medal Watch: Brian Wilson needs 48 to make his Bronze Tom Goeschel needs 130 to make his Bronze Kristy Haught needs 129 to make her Silver All attainable! Jennifer Johnson had three-of-a-kind in 6s Fran Ward had a full house, Kings full of 9s John Morch had a full house, Jacks full of 6s Mike Due had a full house, Kings full of 7s Andy Wagner had two pairs, 10s and 6s Jerry Gooden had a full house, 7s full of 10s Megan Player had a full house, 9s full of 10s Just a reminder that our GRRT is being held on Saturday, November 18th. It is up on the cribbage.org/clubs website, and I hope to have a flyer over to Scott for posting soon. It may not be before Virginia Beach though: it's busy season at work, we are dog-sitting this weekend for the awesomest golden retriever ever, and I have to work Monday. I'll do my best, though.
I hope to see most of ya'll on Monday, and for those of us going to Virginia, safe travels to us all! ~ Jennifer |
