... no, not on the calendar -- not yet. But from a cribbage perspective, yeppers. Before we get into this week's details, the 3rd John Medeiros Memorial Tournament was held this past weekend. 42 players attended the main (won by John Morch), 26 for the consolation (won by Larry Phifer). Thanks to everyone who came out, and congrats to John and Larry. ALSO over the weekend, Kristy earned enough MRPs to get her Grand Master rating. WAY TO GO, KRISTY! The story of the weekend, though, was Saturday night Canadian Doubles. We had 8 teams and one lone straggler (Shane Lewis) who wanted to play, but nobody was around. He went to the bar, asked if anyone wanted to play doubles, and Kris, the bartender, stepped forward. The pair WON THE EVENT. Huge thanks to Kris for filling out our roster! This week was the last week for folks to better their summer totals. It as also (apparently) the week for the front-runners to have awful cards. The results of the summer session are below: We had 20 players (including Elizabeth, a guest and friend of Shane's, and Jeff Raynes, who came out) come out to play the last Summer Hurrah. We paid out 5 places and 2 teams: Al Robinson took 1st with a 16 / 7 / 107 Kristy Haught took 2nd with a 15 / 7 / 70 Frank Abernathy took 3rd with a 15 / 7 / 62 Andy Wagner took 4th with a 14 / 6 / 91 Peter Amacher took 5th with a 13 / 6 / -4 First Team: Jeff (12) and Steve (6) Second Team: Jerry (11) and Joe (6) Grass Roots Dues are due at our next meeting. WE ARE PLAYING ON LABOR DAY, so if you haven't already paid, and are coming on Monday, please have your $8 in addition to your weekly fee. Also, please remember you have the opportunity to pay your dues online by clicking the big red button at cribbage.org. I hope everyone has a great Labor Day weekend, and I look forward to seeing you all on Monday! ~ Jennifer

Our official 2023-2024 season begins on Labor Day. We do play on that day, and I'll be collecting grass roots dues ($8). I'll also be asking everyone to confirm their contact information. This season, we'll be keeping an "medal watch" eye on Brian Wilson, who is 48 points away from his Bronze, Tom Goeschel, who is 130 away from Bronze, and Kristy Haught, whois 156 away from Gold. GO GET 'EM!! I'm prepping for the John Medeiros Memorial tournament which starts in a little over 32 hours; organizing my supplies, printing labels and readying pre-paid scorecards. Later will be a trip to the bank so I can get everything finalized before my brother arrives tonight! Walk-ins are welcome this weekend, cash only please! See some of y'all tomorrow! ~ Jennifer SO, it's been a couple of weeks... Vacation waits for no woman. After a week at the in-laws', I was ready to come back and lose (more) at cards lol. We have two weeks to go: Dot's memorial service is scheduled the same day as the Main for the John Medeiros Memorial next weekend. Therefore, we've made a couple of minor schedule changes:
First, the lunch break on Saturday will be from 1pm to 4pm. Anyone not back playing by 4:05 pm will be assessed a loss and -10 spread. This is to keep things moving along. Second, Saturday Canadian Doubles will be pushed back one hour to start at 8:00 PM, and will be shortened to 7 games. If you're uncomfortable with these changes, no hard feelings; we hope to see you next year! Dot's memorial service information: August 26 @ 2:00 pm St. Mark’s United Methodist Church (about 1/2 hour from the hotel) 4801 Six Forks Rd, Raleigh, NC 27609 reception immediately following In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to: Transitions LifeCare, Philanthropy Dept., 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607 or St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 4801 Six Forks Rd, Raleigh, NC 27609 I will take up a collection on Monday to make a donation in Dot's name to her church. I'm also going to do a donation box at the tournament for any visitors who would like to contribute. I have a stack and a half of entries to process, so that's all I'm gonna do this week. Hope everyone has a great week, see ya'll Monday! ~ Jennifer |
