I think for the summer, I'm gonna take a break from the larger posts and just report the winnings each week, and anything of interest that happens during our play.
Like this week. We learned something. We learned that JERRY HAS KNEES AND ELBOWS! That's right, Jerry wore shorts and a short-sleeved shirt to club this week. In fairness, with his boot from foot surgery, pants weren't gonna cut it without, well, getting cut. So he sported very nice shorts (dress shorts, my son would call them). We had only 10 players this week, hence why knees and elbows were such big news :) Our payout schedule only goes down to 12 players, so Jerry and I figured out what to do for 10. I'll add it to the schedule just in case we hit 10 again. I did mess up the partner cards, but fixed it before it was too late. We paid out three places and one team. First Place: Jennifer with the better 15: 15/7/99 Second Place: Larry with the lesser 15: 15/7/ 59 Third Place: John with a 14/7/63 Team: Jerry Gooden (12) and Bernard Whitfield (9). As a reminder, here's how the Summer Session looks... June 5 - August 28 (excluding July 31) Best 8 weeks will count Buy-in is $20 -- you can join up until June 5 Payout at the end of 8 weeks 50% / 30% / 20% For those of you (us) heading to Winston-Salem this weekend, good luck to us! See some of y'all tomorrow, and the rest on Monday ~ Jennifer

Y'all are AWESOME. I will be sending this separately in an email, and will have a few hard copies at club next week, but here's how the Summer Session looks... June 5 - August 28 (excluding July 31) Best 8 weeks will count Buy-in is $20 -- you can join up until June 5 Payout at the end of 8 weeks 50% / 30% / 20% I also hope to have some reports for you all next week -- I'll have a few copies of the standard reports, though I'll send those electronically once the results are finalized -- and I'll do the "you vs. everyone" report showing your stats against the other players the club. It may take me a couple of weeks to get that in place.
OK, that's it for me, have a great week, everyone! ~ Jennifer ~ Jennifer, just now Sorry for the missed week last week -- work kicked my butt, my husband was away, and GRNT season is wrapping up, so I had a backlog of 20 tournaments to cross check and post. It was quite the week! We had 20 peggers come out to play, including Bernard Whitfield, who's been away for a couple months due to some surgery. He's recovered nicely though there's a "hitch in his giddy-up" as he puts it, but it was wonderful to see him back among us! With 20 players, we paid out four places and three teams. Jerry Gooden took 1st with a 15 / 7 / 83 Mike Due took 2nd with a 15 / 7 / 65 Kelsey Jobe took 3rd with a 13 / 6 / 93 Larry Phifer took 4th with a 13 / 6 / 92 First team was Megan Player (13) and Tom Goeschel (12) Second team was Brian Wilson (12) and Bernard Whitfield (11) Third team was Liz Henderson (11) and Frank Abernathy (8) Full results are up on cribbage.org, but here's the top-10: Frank needs a big 23-card next week (and Larry has to have a bad night) to take the top-spot. Can he do it? Stay tuned! this day in 1931, the Empire State Building opened in New York City. The idea for the Empire State Building is said to have been born of a competition between Walter Chrysler of the Chrysler Corporation and John Jakob Raskob of General Motors, to see who could erect the taller building. Chrysler had already begun work on the famous Chrysler Building, the gleaming 1,046-foot skyscraper in midtown Manhattan. Raskob assembled a group of well-known investors and chose Shreve, Lamb and Harmon Associates to design the building. The entire building went up in just over a year, under budget (at $40 million) and well ahead of schedule. During certain periods of building, the frame grew an astonishing four-and-a-half stories a week. At the time of its completion, the Empire State Building, at 102 stories and 1,250 feet high (1,454 feet to the top of the lightning rod), was the world’s tallest skyscraper. The Depression-era construction employed as many as 3,400 workers on any single day, most of whom received an excellent pay rate, especially given the economic conditions of the time. In 1972, the Empire State Building lost its title as world’s tallest building to New York’s World Trade Center, which itself was the tallest skyscraper for but a year. Today the honor belongs to Dubai’s Burj Khalifa tower, which soars 2,716 feet into the sky. Heather Chilsen Itterman had four 9s Mike Due had a full house, deuces full of 10s Jerry Gooden had a club flush, King high Joe Greiner had two pairs, Aces and 10s Liz Henderson had four 4s Jennifer Johnson had two pairs, Queens and 9s Megan Player had two pairs, 7s and 5s Andy Wagner had a club flush, King high That's all for this week. I'm helping move my son into his third floor apartment (no elevator) on Thursday. So glad there is no tournament to which I plan to go this weekend!
See ya'll Monday. ~ Jennifer |
