Our pre-Chrismanukkazaa tournament night included delicious snacks provided by Tom (and Cat) Goeschel, and an army of candy cane reindeer provided by Jennifer Johnson. 18 peggers were on hand to try to get an early holiday gift (of GRPs). A third of folks of the players were on Santa's nice list, earning GRPs for the week. Only the 14s and 15s received money, though, with four places being paid out. Fran Ward had 15, and John Morch, Jerry Gooden, and Jennifer Johnson all had 14s. The lone 13, earned by Kristy Haught, and the only 12, earned by Glenn McMahon, weren't completely shut out of the cash; they helped make winning teams. Third team went to Tom Goeschel (8) and Andy Wagner (11) Second team was Kristy Haught (13) and Jeff Seidenstein (6) First Team Honors went to Larry Phifer (9) and Glenn McMahon (12). The full week's results is listed below: Though Larry Phifer didn't score any points this week, he has a pretty big lead over the rest of the field. There is still a lot of cribbage left to be played here, though, and with five months to go, as long as Larry keeps scoring 9s, the rest of us may have a chance :) Top ten in the club through week 17 is listed below: See y'all next week! ~ Jennifer

LOTS has happened since we last spoke....and sorry it took me so long to get this post up. It's been a helluva week personally :) We've had two tournaments... We've had a GRRT.... We had two twenty-eight hands.... And a string of pearls.... Where to begin.... OK. Two weeks ago, December 9th, was the 54th anniversary of the premiere of "A Charlie Brown Christmas" on CBS in the US. Do you hear Schroeder's piano? To celebrate, Jeff Raynes gifted both Fran Ward and John Medeiros 28-hands. He didn't deal them, but he found the elusive cut that made his opponents extremely happy. Ernie Hodgson didn't fare so well. He earned a string of pearls (or a box of donuts, a line of cheerios, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera). Third team monies went to Fran Ward (10) and Brian Wilson (11) Second team went to the Johns: Morch (10) ad Medeiros (11) and First team went to Allan Simpson (10) and Kristy Haught (12) Week 15's results are below: This past Saturday, we held our Grass Roots Regional Tournament. Twenty-four peggers came out to play the day including the Reister brothers and Henry Douglas. We had four people win points: Jeff Raynes, he of the two twenty-eight hands the prior Monday, took top honors with 27 points scored. Larry Phifer (26), Jeff "I Hate This Game" Seidenstein (25), and our Fearless Leader Catherine Perkins (24) rounded out the point-winners. John Morch (22) and Kristy Haught (21) rounded out the cash prize winners The full results of the day are below. Monday night, on the anniversary of the 1773 Boston Tea Party, Ernie Hodgson was gracious enough to wear the pearls he earned the prior week. He double-stranded, a-la Jackie Kennedy :) and wore them the whole night. Top prize went to guest (and Dot Davis's son) Scott. Third team monies went to Dot Davis (7) and Frank Abernathy (12) Second team went to Jeff Raynes (8) and Cathy Perkins (11) and First team went to Joe Greiner (10) and Pete Amacher (10) NEXT week, we have the promise of yummy treats from Tom's new kitchen, and maybe another candy cane reindeer army will be standing tall and proud. And maybe somebody OTHER than Tom will take top prize.... For now, here are the week 16 results, and current top-10: See ya'll Monday... for those who won't be here, Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, and Joyous Festivus everyone! ~ Jennifer WEEEEEEEK FOOOOUUUUUURRRRRTTTTTEEEEEEEEEENNNNN! Sorry, I'm watching the NHL as I put this together. Did you read that in announcer-voice? No? Just me? Hmph. Are you lying? Some kind of lying is bad. For instance, on December 2, 2001, Enron, the huge energy-trading company based in Houston sparked one of the largest corporate scandals in history when it filed for bankruptcy. An investigation revealed that executives misled investors about profits, and the ensuing scandal wiped out retirement accounts and send key execs to prison. We can all agree, this is bad. But, some is acceptable, like when your opponent tells you they threw you "pretty cards", only to find out it's a face-8! Not even SUITED! Lies! Tonight, there were plenty of petty mistruths and attempted misdirection, as there should be when a bunch of cribbage players get together. We welcomed back Luther, who is recovering nicely from his emergency surgery and watched (most of) the game between the Seattle Highlighters -- er -- Seahawks and the Minnesota Vikings. And only a scant few earned points. I mean, an 11 (one of many) snuck in to take 6th place (way to go, Andy!) Most of the others made really good partners. Third team with combined 19 went to Ernie Hodgson (8) and Tom Goeschel (11). Second team with combined 20 went to John Medeiros (9) and Frank Abernathy (11). First team with combined 21 went to Larry Phifer (10) and Jennifer Johnson (11). Full results, and the standings as of this week, are below: See ya'll next week! ~ Jennifer |
